Tell me about yourself.
MB: Hi, my name is Marika Brown and I am 29 years young. I am from Brooklyn, NY. I am currently a producer at an advertising firm.
How would you describe your personal style?
MB: My style varies depending on my mood. I love vintage timeless pieces. I love color and print clashing; I value diversity so I enjoy fusing masculine and feminine elements. Overall, I'd say my style imitates art; it's abstract. I like for my looks to invoke feeling and ultimately be left up to the interpretation of the viewer. I cannot really label or define my personal style as one thing I think it evolves everyday.
Your style has many 80's and 90's elements. Did those eras inspire your style?
MB: The 80s and the 90s are definitely some influential eras for me. I grew up in those times. I'd watch my mother and aunts get dressed to go out with their color-blocked blazers, shoulder pads and big hair. I'd always be in awe. They were so fly; I wanted to be that. I like to merge the vintage fashion finds with the current trends. I think ultimately, my style is wrought from disliking to look like anyone else and you can achieve that when you thrift. You would never go to a gathering and a girl has on your blouse or your dress, originality has always been dire for me.
Do you shop at any thrift shops? If so, which one is your favorite?
MB: I thrift often, I'm a junkie. I tend to mainly thrift in Maryland (out of town has the best digs). But when I do thrift home I stop by L Train Vintage and East Village Thrift.
You have some serious heat! How did you get into collecting kicks?
MB: I fell in love with sneakers when the Jordan 11 Concords came out. I was in elementary school, I remember begging for them in footlocker! When I finally got them I would wear them to school then come home and clean them off with an old toothbrush. I really took care of them and the rest was history. I'm forever a fan of quality and rare kicks. I really got deep into collecting in HS. I started working at Bloomingdale's to fund my hobby and been at it ever since. I keep saying I'm going to retire but there's always some new gems to acquire.

What is your favorite thing about fall fashion?
MB: I love layering; I love bridging summer shorts over thigh high boots and completing with a nice sport jacket. Fall is like the merging of all seasons into one in terms of fashion and style.
