Tell me about yourself.
CJ: My name is Chelsea Jones and I am 22 years old living in Los Angeles, CA. I am currently a stylist at Ron Herman in Fred Segal.
How long have you been a stylist?
CJ: I've been doing freelance work for about 4 going on 5 years now.
Tell us about your styling experience with rapper B.O.B?
CJ: I was actually hired to style his No Genre artist Lin-Z and her background dancers for her music video “Fleek” featuring B.o.B. They were filming here in LA and when we got to set we all began working and talking and he didn't have a stylist on set that day so I jumped in and began talking to him. He actually went ahead and let me do what I do and I ended up getting him together just from stuff he had on hand! It was a lot of fun to get to work with him and the rest of his team.
Are there any other celebrities that you wish to work with in the future? Which celebrities and why?
CJ: Plenty. I don't have anyone specifically that I have my eyes on to work with. Not because I don't want to, but just because there are so many people out there that I feel I could make magic with and I don't want to loose any opportunity by focusing on anyone specific. If anything, I want to be like Monica Rose. She styles some of the most well dressed women in the industry right now and her work is seen across screens everywhere on all different types.
How would you describe your personal style?
CJ: I think my personal style really depends on my mood that day. I wear a lot of black but my overall look can range anywhere from an oversized tee and some slides to a little black dress and a great heel. I'm pretty minimal with the pieces I choose and in the way I mix things. I'm not very eclectic and I don't do too many patterns. I love putting other people in all that but when it comes to me, I'm pretty simple.
Walk us through your getting ready process. How do you decide what to wear for the day?
CJ: I change 500 times and then I'm out the door. *laughs*. I might have one specific piece I really want to wear when I wake up and plan my outfit around it, but more often than not I don't even end up in that piece. After changing and looking in the mirror 10 times, something else I have put on has flattered me for the day and I'm working around that piece instead. But I usually always work around a certain piece and the rest just flows.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
CJ: In 5 years I see myself doing way more with my freelance work. I don't plan on working for anyone but myself within the next 5 years. I have a plan for a boutique as well as a styling showroom in the works so God willing that will all be running smoothly soon. I hope to build my clientele list to be able to do what I love full time. I just want to be able to say I made myself successful in the industry.
