Tell me about yourself.
D: My name is Devine and I am a singer, rapper and writer.
How would you describe your personal style?
D: I'm a major tomboy that can get sexy on em whether I'm in ripped baggy jeans and sneakers or something tight.
You are one of our favorite rappers here at TMM! How long have been rapping?
D: Thank you, I greatly appreciate the love and support! I've been rapping for 6 years.
What/who inspired you to pursue music?
D: I got my heart broken and music was my healing. Life gets hard but after God, art heals. The real blessing behind it all is that I'm able to help others through my music and inspire them to persevere.
How do you feel about the current state of hip hop? A lot of people are saying music isn't how it used to be. Would you agree with that or do you think that it's a different time and music is just "evolving"?
D: Hip hop could never die because it is a way of life. Music is always evolving, so with that comes opinions of what may be trash or refreshing to the ears. I've learned to respect all music, but I don't respect people who make a mockery of the culture and lack passion.
Describe your rap style. What separates you from other rappers?
D: My rap style is very organic. I've never needed a gimmick because my life gives me endless topics and scenarios to talk about as well as raw emotion. I think what separates me is that I truly just love music and I don't want to be anyone but myself in sound or in existence.
Are you currently working on any projects?
D: I am working on an EP currently so I am very excited about that! I will also host my own showcase on October 15th that will give my fans a taste of what's coming.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
D: God has been humbling me to be where my feet are so this question is kind of tough. Before, I would always plan ahead and look forward which left me stressed out. I will just say that I see myself happy, at peace and successful.
